The Mahindra driverless tractor is set to redefine agriculture equipment in the same way Tesla is disrupting the commercial and passenger vehicle industries. The Mahindra driverless tractor was first unveiled in 2017, since then the company has been hard at work refining the technology. Mahindra plans to offer the driverless technology across its 20HP to 100HP range of tractors.

Before we discuss the technology and how it will work, why are driverless tractors important and how will they impact the agriculture industry? The bottom line is the human population is growing and the amount of quality arable land is shrinking. The only way to increase food production on the limited farmland we have is to increase productivity.

There are only so many hours in a day and a person can only effectively work so many hours before they need to rest. Technology innovation and automation has long been a part of food processing and other industrial applications, Mahindra is bringing that same innovation to the source, directly to the farmer.

Mahindra has been at the forefront of pioneering solutions for tractors and other agriculture equipment for decades. The driverless tractor is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that gives the tractor several unique features:

Autosteer – a GPS-based technology that enables the tractor to travel along a straight line or row.

Auto-headland turn – enables the tractor to orient itself along adjacent rows for continuous operation without any steering input from an operator.

Auto-implement lift – automatically lifts the work tool from the ground at the end of the row and lowers the tool after the tractor has oriented itself in front of the next row.

In the same way we use automatic robots to sweep floors and clean warehouses, a farmer could plow an entire field while they slept. Or perform any other monotonous task that is required in the fields while focusing their valuable time elsewhere on the farm.

Mahindra driverless tractors are the future of farming. If you want to learn more about Mahindra and how they are using technology to improve productivity and profitability, contact Handlers Equipment today!
